ABOUT

Enviu Agrifood

Agrifood systems in the global south are failing farmers, consumers, and the planet. Smallholder farmers struggle with low yields, post-harvest losses, volatile markets, and the effects of climate change. At the same time, food insecurity persists, supply chains remain inefficient, and unsustainable practices degrade soil and water resources. In other words, these systems are broken.

Enviu Agrifood tackles this issue in East Africa by building ventures that cut food waste, restore productivity, and empower farmers with circular, sustainable solutions that make food systems more resilient and equitable.
APPROACH

Our Strategy for Change

Enviu Agrifood focuses on creating sustainable food systems by building businesses that regenerate soils, reduce waste and build climate-resilient supply chains.

We serve smallholder farmers by providing better market access, storage, and processing solutions – empowering them to grow more with fewer resources. By partnering with like-minded organisations to develop and roll out our innovations, we contribute to a more sustainable and circular food system.

Explore Our Work

SokoFresh

SokoFresh is an award winning social enterprise that is addressing post-harvest loss issues by providing first-mile cold storage and market linkage services to smallholder farmers and aggregators. SokoFresh supports over 12,000 smallholders to aggregate produce at their offgrid solar powered cold hubs, and find the best buyers for their produce in both local and export markets. First-mile cooling has proven essential in driving down post harvest losses.

Shambani Pro

Shambani Pro is an innovative social enterprise that sets up a network of value addition factories at first mile to eliminate post harvest loss for smallholder farmers. We offtake all grades of produce from smallholder farmers and turn them into valuable products that we sell, unlocking sustainable value. The venture pioneers the inclusion and empowerment of smallholder farmers in value addition, offering increased prices for second grade produce while also creating rural jobs.

Foodflow

FoodFlow is a venture building program within our Agrifood domain that focuses on regenerative agriculture. As part of this program, we have a key focus on building an enabling environment and ecosystem through the following activities:

Connecting key stakeholders
We play a pivotal role in bringing together players in the Agrifood domain. Through convening and connecting, we stimulate collaboration, resource sharing and collective problem solving / co-creation; forming a broad support network.

Pipeline development
By developing innovative sustainable businesses, we facilitate impact focused financiers to step into the space and through funding, facilitate the scaling of the ventures.

Knowledge Sharing
By openly and transparently sharing our deep insights and learnings in the agrifood domain, we strengthen the entire ecosystem.

Driving/supporting the case for Policy Change
Since policies can drive systemic change, we ensure that we focus on providing the data backed insights, as well as delivering the practical models that policymakers can support.
